Background

Cindy Schmidt is currently an Associate Program Manager for NASA’s Earth Science Applied Science Ecological Conservation Program. She is also the lead for the Indigenous Peoples Pilot program with NASA’s Capacity Building Program. She has over 25 years of experience in using remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) technology for natural resource management, urban planning and human health risk assessment. Cindy has taught Introduction to Remote Sensing at San Francisco State University, California State University Monterey Bay and Foothill Community College.

Cindy has a B.S. from UC Davis in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning, a master's degree from San Jose State University in Urban and Regional Planning and a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is based at NASA Ames Research Center in California.
