Background
Owen Hooks is the Equity & Environmental Justice Program Manager. He took on this role in August 2022. Owen is on detail from the Goddard Space Flight Center’s Medical and Environmental Management Division at Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, Va. He works with a diverse set of colleagues to monitor the Capacity Building Program’s Equity & Environmental Justice grant-funded projects.
Owen brings many skills to the team, including his experience as an environmental engineer. In that role, he led groups and managed laboratories tasked with assuring compliance with the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Air Act, Oil Pollution Act, and the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permits.
He has communicated extensively about these efforts with external Federal partners, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and U.S. Navy, and within NASA to tenants and partners at Wallops Flight Facility. Owen serves as a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility committee member, and as an Inclusion Ally. He has served as a mentor to many students and colleagues.
