Background

Sean McCartney is a trainer with the Applied Remote Sensing Training (ARSET) program. His focus is on disasters and water resources topics. ARSET empowers the global community through in-person and online trainings to incorporate Earth-observing data into environmental management and decision-making.  

Sean is also the lead science advisor for the DEVELOP program at Goddard Space Flight Center. DEVELOP fosters the next generation of scientific leaders by pairing participants and partner organizations for 10-week interdisciplinary projects that apply NASA Earth observations to community concerns around the globe.  

Sean served for three years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Madagascar in the agroforestry sector. He is passionate about using Earth observations to solve the world’s toughest challenges. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geography from Cal Poly Humboldt and holds a master’s degree in Geographic Information Science for Development and Environment from Clark University.
