Within the NASA funded project -Cooperative Agreement Notice NN-H-04-Z-YO-010-C Enhancing Malaria Early Warning System with Earth Observation and Modeling Results, PI (S. Connor, IRI), minimum air temperature products derived from MODIS night Land Surface Temperature, rainfall estimates derived from NASA TRMM products and Vectorial Capacity Model for Malaria transmission have been developed and tested with field data. A second NASA funded project: A19 NNH08ZDA001N-FEASIBILITY - Environmental factors and population dynamics as determinants of meningococcal meningitis epidemics in the Sahel: awarded in June 2009, PI (S. Trzaska, IRI) is currently developing products for monitoring and forecasting the risks of Meningitis outbreaks in the Sahel. These two NASA funded projects allowed the development of relevant sets of predictors to help decision makers in their tasks to monitor and forecast changes in epidemic potential. However, the products are not yet easily accessible for the user communities and tools to analyze the data and maps are required to provide relevant answers at decision levels. The proposed project is aimed at developing web-based platform with data, tools and relevant interfaces to serve decision makers with malaria and meningitis products. We are planning to: 1. Develop a repository of data relevant for decision making in malaria and meningitis control. The major outcome will be the provision of information about the catalog and metadata but also advantages and limitations of given data and their suitability 2. Develop Maprooms for malaria and meningitis to provide dynamic maps and tools to create time-series of disease status and relevant environmental factors 3. Develop interfaces to link outputs from Data Library to platforms used by the health community (Open Health) and wider public (NASA SERVIR and Google Earth) 4. Reconstruct Map Room tools to be available as layers in NASA SERVIR, Google Earth and WHO OpenHealth.
