Spring2024 DEVELOPer of the Term - Devon Maloney & Teodora Rautu

SPRING 2024 DEVELOPers of the Term

Congratulations to Devon Maloney and Teo Rautu for being selected as the spring 2024 DEVELOPers of the Term!

Devon Maloney, a first-time DEVELOP participant and Project Lead on the Northern Brazil Agriculture project, demonstrated exceptional leadership and science communication skills throughout the spring term. Devon excelled in fostering collaboration within her virtual team, and despite varying schedules and responsibilities, Devon adeptly delegated tasks to ensure that every team member effectively contributed while meeting project objectives and deadlines. The team's plan to pursue publication stands as a testament to Devon's leadership and organizational abilities. Through the technicalities of analyzing crop yield, NDVI, sea and land surface temperature, and precipitation data, Devon and her team presented easy to decipher figures while maintaining scientific complexity and sophistication, as noted by her science advisors. Devon also went out of her way and utilized her experience as an instructor for GIS courses to support other teams’ topographic wetness indices calculations, all while preparing to defend her dissertation!

Teo Rautu emerged as a driving force behind the success of the Pop-Up University of Wyoming Intermountain West Wildland Fires project. With a Colorado-based Center Lead, Teo stepped up to the plate in Wyoming and demonstrated exceptional organizational and autonomy, scheduling partner and science advising meetings independently. Helping keep the team ahead of deliverable deadlines, Teo consistently came to meetings prepared with insightful questions and incorporated feedback from node leadership. Her team members raved about her organization and dependable task delegation, always ensuring that the team remembered their ideas, goals, and scope of the project. On the technical side, Teo was able to seamlessly translate preexisting R scripts from DEVELOP’s previous summer term into her team’s project and optimize the scripts for future use.

Congratulations again to Devon and Teo!
