DEVELOP summer 2024 DEVELOPers of the Term: Isabela Suaza Sierra, Shilpa Kannan, and Ann Ehrlich

Summer 2024 DEVELOPers of the Term

Congratulations to Shilpa Kannan, Ann Ehrlich, and Isabela Suaza Sierra for being selected as the summer 2024 DEVELOPers of the Term!

Shilpa Kannan from the Clear Lake Volcanic Field Disasters team at ARC demonstrated what it means to 'build capacity' in DEVELOP. With a background in business management information systems, Shilpa quickly learned how to make interferograms with Sentinel data, which is no easy feat! Yet, they approached the project with a smiling face and a passion for learning every day. Their technical skill development and commitment to lifting up others in the Ames office are inspiring and a shining example of what it means to be a successful DEVELOPer.

Ann Ehrlich tackled a unique project with the Brazil Space Weather team at LaRC, examining how space plasma impacts precision agricultural tools in Brazil. Ann made significant contributions to the methodology, communication, and design of the project, all while being a supportive teammate. Showcasing her technical capabilities, Ann utilized her Python skills and navigated John Deere’s internal Data Query System. Encouraging her teammates and being an effective contributor in meetings with international partners, Ann is a champion of all four DEVELOP values: collaboration, passion, service, and discovery.

Isabela Suaza Sierra, a member of the NCEI Vermont Wildland Fires project, was consistently an engaged and effective team member throughout the summer term. As her team faced challenges in methodology and data acquisition, Isabela stepped up, lent her time, and found innovative solutions without hesitation. Additionally, Isabela’s diverse background and experience enriched the team and brought a unique perspective to fostering an inclusive environment on a virtual team. In just ten short weeks, Isabela demonstrated growth in the capacity of her professional leadership, communication skills, and collaboration, going above and beyond to support her team and the project.
