Fast moving wildfires, including the Carr fire just outside of Redding, California have killed at least eight people, and destroyed more than 1,000 homes and businesses. There are currently at least 18 active wildfires statewide which are being battled by thousands of firefighters. The fires range from Redding in Northern California to Riverside County in Southern California. They include two significant fires near Mendocino National Forest and Yuba City. The Carr Fire is currently the largest in the state, having burned over 112,000 acres. Heavy rains earlier this year caused significant vegetative growth, which created the conditions for this year’s fire season. Significant additional fires are expected.
