Hurricane Willa emerged near the Mexican west coast on October 20, 2018 and rapidly strengthened into a category 5 storm. Although the wind speeds diminished somewhat, the storm made landfall as a category 3 storm approximately 15km from the town of Escuinapa in Sinaloa state. Maximum sustained winds at landfall were estimated to be 120 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 965 millibars per the National Hurricane Center. Since landfall, the storm has moved inland, weakening to a tropical depression as of October 24. The remnants continue to move north east and rainfall has now reached the United States border in Texas.
